(Angela here)  Recite it with me: “In the great green room there was a telephone and a red balloon…” All the kids in my life have loved Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd and I’ve read it over and over and over. There’s something comforting about the pattern of the syllables and the familiarity of the text.

(Just noticing a high proportion of children’s books in our selections so far. I wonder if that’s because we’re parents or because children’s books are timeless, classic.)

Kim here. This would have to be a kids book. With kids books, they want you to reread them a bazillion times… and read it “the EXACT same way as before”. Never do character voices for your kids folks, it’ll kill you.  One of our family favourite… and really, it does not annoy me, is Dianna Bonder’s Eleven Lazy Llamas.

We know the names of the llamas off by heart… and we can cheep in unison. Great fun, gorgeous illustrations and Dianna is also a lovely friend.
